Herb is a retired banker with extensive background at senior levels in all facets of retail banking including facilities management.

 

Herb retired from Coast Capital Savings in 2013 after 22 years; most recently positioned as Vice President Branching, Location Strategy and Facilities. Prior to Coast, Herb worked for HSBC for 13 years.

 

Herb is passionate about travel and golf and as a life long golfer has been fortunate enough to golf in a number of countries around the world. He has been able to share his love for the game (and his administrative and negotiation skills) through planning and preparation of numerous golf trips to many parts of Western Canada and the USA for groups ranging in size from 4 to 12 . To Herb, these trips are not just about golf; they are meticulously planned to ensure they are a memorable experience for his clients and many of these trips have included side events such as wine touring or sports such as hockey or football games.

As Vice President Branching, Location Strategy and Facilities at Coast Capital Savings, Herb's responsibilities included:

• Overall Corporate space planning for 50 branch network plus a number of administrative areas comprising a total of approx. 450k sf

• Lease Management

• Landlord negotiations for new premises and lease renewals

• New branch projects

  • Ranged in budget from $900k to $3.2m

  • Ranged in size from 1,900 sf to 6,300 sf

  • 10 branches opened

• Renovation program - Developed a three tiered renovation program which enabled cost effective and time efficient renovations to be completed

  • 18 projects completed

  • Ranged in size from 1,300 sf to 15,400 sf

  • Ranged in budget from $300k to $2.3m

• Relocation of branches involved financial results analysis, prospects for future growth, trade area analysis, alternative location opportunities in the market, preparation of business cases etc

• New premises responsibilities (branches or otherwise):

  • involved preparation of business case

  • sourcing locations

  • developer negotiations

  • space planning / layouts

  • establishing budgets; approving invoices for wip

  • obtaining all appropriate approvals

  • oversight of General Contractor and progress of projects with respect to schedules, budgets etc

  • provide approvals and / or recommendations for any project Change Orders

 

Herb has been organizing golf tours for approximately 20 years. He has great familiarity with courses throughout BC (Kootenays, Thompson, Okanagan, Lower Mainland and Vanc Island), Alberta, many areas of California including Palm Springs, San Diego and the Central Coast, Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson, Lake Havasu, Laughlin, Mesquite), Washington, Utah and Montana.
